Cell phone invasion

There is no cell phone etiquette here like what we are used to back in O-land. People answer their phones oblivious to the conversations that are going on. Maybe thats the way it should, and we have it all wrong. I was at an aunt's place for lunch today. Some other visitors dropped by. So, there were about 6 cell phones in the room. What seemed about every couple of minutes, one of them would go off, and the call would be answered. It wasnt considered inappropriate to interrupt the current conversation. Thankfully, the networks are over-loaded and I'm sure some of the calls are not getting through. Junk SMS's abound too and each one causes a beep or ring alert.

i guess that goes with the whole social etiquette in general and nothing specific with cell phones. personally i like the way it is in O-land.

Me thinks getting a call and excusing yourself is still fine. To experience the real nuisance value of cell phones, you should travel in Mumbai's overcrowded local trains during peak hours. People love to hear music which is nothing short of tinpot sounds, sans earphones. And several people indulge in it simultaneously. So from one side you hear zindagi kaisi hai paheli hai from another side you'll hear singh is king and several other directions the newer nos. which one can't even identify. Not to forget several others who are talking on their cell phones. What cacophony!!! And admist all this, commuters like me trying to catch a few winks.
